What is it?
The word LASER is formed
by five initials of English words: Light Amplification
by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a very
disciplined form of energy – each type of laser
has a specific target that may have precise and unique
effects on the organic tissues.
FACIAL REJUVENATING WITH LASER
The facial rejuvenating with Laser Ultrapulse CO2
or Laser Erbium Ultrafine provides an improvement
of fine and deep wrinkles caused by the natural aging
of the skin and by the excess exposure to the sun.
The deeper wrinkles, caused by the muscular action
on the skin (expression wrinkles) are decreased with
the laser, but need to be complemented by the botulinic
toxin (Botox or Dysport) to keep the muscles in repose.
Other irregularities may be treated with laser: acne
marks, scars, spots and skin lesions such as nevus,
warts, ceratosis, siringomas, etc.
The laser vaporizes the tissues instantaneously, without
affecting the neighboring tissues, because each type
of laser has a specific “target”.
The action of the laser consists of the removal of
the more superficial layers of the skin, promoting
a contraction of the deeper layers, which, when regenerate
present a firmer skin with a healthy and young appearance.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
1) Scar
There aren’t any, because this treatment has
no cuts. Only the laser gets in touch with the skin,
provoking scaling.
2)
Anesthesia
Local with sedation, depending on the case.
3)
Time of the procedure
Variable, depending on the extension of the areas
to be treated. In general, 2 minutes to 2 hours.
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
1) Complementary exams
to be specified.
2)
A picture of the region is important for the evaluation,
planning and documentation.
3) Go
to the clinic in the day and time scheduled, preferably
accompanied by someone.
4)
Don’t take jewelry and other valuables to the
clinic.
5)
The skin is previously prepared in a period of 2 weeks
to 2 months before the procedure, according to the
type of skin.
Care:
1) Fasting of at least
6 hours before the start of the laser application.
2)
Medication for hypertension and other diseases must
be informed for later orientation. Inform your doctor
if you are undergoing acne treatment. (Accutane, Roacutan
- Vit A via oral).
3)
Medication that contains acetyl salicylic acid and
anticoagulant agents do not prevent the laser treatment.
4)
Inform your doctor any prior skin treatment, chemical
or abrasive peeling.
AFTER THE SURGERY
1) Pain
With an occlusive dressing it is practically nonexistent.
There may be a “pulling back” sensation,
and a little discomfort in the treated area. Light
fever is rare and disappears with normal medication.
2)
Office procedure
The application is done in the office and the patient
will be ready to return home after some hours after
the procedure.
3)
Dressings
Soon after the treatment, the treated area is covered
with a fine pellicle that remains during 6 days. After
the removal of this pellicle, the skin must be hydrated.
4)
Sun
The treated area will have a reddish color that will
remain for an average of one to two months. During
this period, the use of sun block is mandatory, and
it is forbidden any type of exposure to the sun. If
this is not done, the results may not be satisfactory.
5)
Make-up and hair dying
A special foundation with sun block will have to be
used to disguise this pink color until it disappears.
The makeup as well as the hair dying may only be done
after the first week.
6)
Spots
Around the 2nd or 3rd week a preventive treatment
is started to avoid dark spots. If they happen, the
fact must be communicated immediately to your doctor.
These spots are caused by the healing and are usually
temporary, disappearing with an adequate treatment
and constant supervision of the doctor. However, if
during this phase there is an inadequate exposure
to the sun, they may become permanent.
7) Rest
During the first week, remain at home away from the
window, the stove and other types of heat irradiation.
Rest, avoiding intense physical activity, weight lifting
and exposure to the wind. When lying down, keep the
head elevated (two pillows).

FINAL RESULT
Inimically, during the first four months after the
procedure, the region is under recovery, but with
the time, the organic tissues will go back to normal
and the aspect becomes very natural. .
After the fourth month, new pictures are taken for
comparison. This reevaluation may indicate the need
of some retouching, procedure considered normal in
plastic surgery, which must be done after the 6th
month and at the most one year after the procedure.
