The injections of
botulinic toxin have been used for about one decade
in children and adults to solve problems of muscular
spasms, in the face as well as in other regions of the
body. It weakens the muscles. The toxin blocks muscular
contraction.
How it works:
In the aesthetic application,
the botulinic toxin is injected in minimal concentrations
directly into the muscle to be treated, involving areas
that present dynamic (expression) wrinkles caused by
the muscular action, frequently in the frontal region
(forehead), between the eyebrows and periorbital.
This injection weakens the treated muscle, preventing
the frowning and the wrinkles that are caused by the
muscular action.
The technique:
The solution is injected
with a very fine needle (insulin needle) in the muscle
to be treated, without the need of anesthesia, which
may deactivate the product.
Normally, we cool the area to be worked with a cold
mask to decrease the possibility of bruises after the
application.
Before the application:
The patient must not
be pregnant or nursing. She must not be taking antibiotics
of the aminoglocosideo group (for example, aminacin).
After the application:
Over the treated region
we apply micropore, with the objective of immobilizing
it during 4 hours.
Collateral effects and complications have been minimum.
Occasionally there may be a discreet swelling and/or
bruise in the treated area.
There will be some perception of the application for
a short period of 15 days in some patients.
Durability:
Because
it is not a chemical action, this treatment is not final,
for the product loses its effect from 4 to 6 months.
After this period, a new application may be planned
if the patient wants it.
