What is it?

The breast augmentation or breast implant is performed through the placing of a silicon implant that will give the desired size of the breast.

What you need to know:

1) Scar
When we place the implant, the scar may be in the mammary fold or with the use of endoscopy in the axilar region, saving the breast from scars.

If there is mammary flaccidity, it is necessary to perform the resection of the skin, what will result in a scar in the shape of an "L" or "T".

2) Anesthesia
May be local with sedation, peridural or even general, according to the indication of the anesthesiologist.

3) Surgery time
One hour.

4) Age
When the breast has stopped growing, that is, when there is no need to buy a bigger bra.

5) Incidence of cancer

The patients with breast implants do not have a higher incidence of breast cancer in relation to the ones who don’t.

6) Mammary Examinations (cancer prevention)
The implant does not interfere in the manual examination, mammography nor in the mammary ultrasound.

7) Capsular retraction
The silicon is an inert material, that is, the organism does not reject it. What happens is that the organism forms a capsule around the implant that must remain without retraction? The implants have evolved to a textured capsule and cohesive gel. These two evolutions allow results without contraction problems.

8) Warranty
The implant comes from the factory with a 10-year warranty. There is no need to replace it within this period, only a visit to the doctor’s office for the examination.

9) Breast Feeding
The implant does not interfere. The implant (1) is places below or above the pectoral muscle (2). The criterion for such choice is the presence of a mammary gland (3) to cover the implant.

Before the surgery:

1) Complementary exams to be specified.

2) A picture of the region is important for the evaluation, surgical planning and documentation.

3) Get a band for use after the surgery and take to the clinic the day of the surgery.

4) Go to the clinic in the day and time scheduled, preferably with someone, mainly if the surgery is performed in the office.

5) Don’t take jewelry and other valuables to the clinic.

6) Don’t polish your nails.

7) Any occurrence such as diseases (the flu, fever, infection) or other motives that cause the suspension of the surgery, advise in advance.

8) The use of Arnica may be done to avoid bruising. This use must start one week to ten days before the surgery. Have an evaluation with the doctor for orientation on the use of medicines before the surgery important for the healing and balance of the organism, aiming a better recovery.

Care:

1) Fasting of at least 6 hours before the surgery.

2) Medication for hypertension and other diseases must be informed for later orientation.

3) Don’t take medicine that contains acetyl salicylic acid (ex. AAS, Rhonal, Bufferin, Aspirin), one week before and one week after the surgery because it increases the bleeding.

4) Stop all appetite suppressing drugs 15 days before the surgery.

5) Don’t smoke15 days before and 15 days after the surgery. Why not decide to stop smoking?

After the surgery:

1) Pain: Pode existir uma sensação de pressão que passa em 2 dias.

2) Hospital Time: You may go home the same day, or remain in the hospital for 24 hours.

3) First Dressings: Dressings with a bandage soon after the surgery and a band afterwards.

4) Posture: As straight as possible.

5) Bathing: Normal shower after the removal of the bandages. Dry the micropore with a hair dryer.

6) Clothes: Try to wear clothes that are open in the front. Do not wear bras with metal support, first because you don’t need them any more and second because a regular use of this kind of bra may move the implant upwards.

7) Food: Normal.

8) Bruises: Bruises are absorbed in 7 to 10 days, and a special ointment or gel may be used.

9) Stitch removal: There is no need to remove stitches, because they are internal. We may also use surgical glue.

10) Physical Efforts: Weightlifting is not recommended after the submuscular breast augmentation to avoid a displacement of the implant. Other physical activities may be done one month after the surgery. In the axilar surgery, the patient may return to normal physical activities within 3 days.

11) Intercourse: Allowed, but the handling of the breast at the beginning must be moderate.

12) Sun: No exposure to the sun during 30 days.

13) Massage: Massage after the surgery must be done rigorously in the first month by a specialized professional (masseur or physiotherapist). After this period, the patient herself may continue the massage for at least six months.

14) Sensibility: There may be an increase or decrease of sensibility for a period of 2 months.

Will this disappear?

Every surgery involves a certain recovery period. Be patient because your organism will take care of some little problems that invariably will call attention of some people who will ask: "Will this disappear?" Always share with us any type of concern. We will give the necessary explanations for your tranquility.

Final Result:

After the fourth month new pictures are taken for comparison. This reevaluation may indicate the need for some retouching, procedure considered normal in plastic surgery. It must be done after the 6th month and at the most one year after the surgery.
